Well here we are, Sunday 12 December. In five days and one hour, I will be able to have some #focus – just in time for both my birthday and Christmas.
I’m surprised at how easy it has been – the nutella episode aside – to give the stuff up. Not that I haven’t had cravings – I have. Especially around 2.30 in the afternoon and 8.30 in the evening. I hadn’t realised what a habit of having a little something sweet I had got into - especially that afternoon slot. I usually make myself coffee and nibble some chocolate. I’d never really thought much about it beyond the selection of the #focus in question…Now I can’t believe how much of it I was eating.
Most of the time I am careful about what I eat for a variety of reasons we won’t go into here – but my treat was always that spot of #focus with my coffee in the afternoon. Oh alright – and in the evening. Interesting to note I’ve lost nearly two kilos since the start of the challenge and the only thing I’ve done is cut out chocolate – now that girls and boys is scary.
I had to smile the other day when I got up to make myself a cup of coffee – I was really craving something sweet so thought “I know, I’ll have a cup of milo instead of coffee”. Mmmmhmmmmm – happily my brain woke up before I started spooning the stuff in to my cup.
The whole exercise has me curious now about the impact of sugar on our systems. You see I love good quality, rich, dark chocolate – and I am perfectly capable of showing both discipline and sanity when it’s around. A mouthful of sweet, milk chocolate though and my behaviour converts to that of an addict “oh just one more piece”, ” I could stop if I wanted to”, “I can handle it”. I’ve come to the conclusion though it’s the sugar, not the chocolate.
I have to admit – albeit somewhat begrudgingly – I am developing a taste for yoghurt and fruit in the afternoon and sorbet in the place of ice cream….
So the last week – and I have a feeling it will be the hardest. Especially as I have several Christmas functions on this week and I just know there will be chocolate involved. Sigh.
Anyway, as a distraction I have decided to add a newsletter service to the website to keep people updated on what is happening on the site and competitions. If you’d like to be included in future newsletters pop along to the
newsletter page and register today.
Anyone who registers now and 7 am Friday 17 will go in the draw to win a
300gm gift cube from The Chocolate Boutique: packed in a cello bag inside this box is a selection of chocolates and truffles. So sign up and be in to win
